All who love me will do what I say

Jesus replied, “All who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will come and make our home with each of them.

John 14:23

We demonstrate our love to the Lord by simply walking in obedience to His word.  We are no longer living under the old covenant so we no longer live under the law.  But we are called to walk in obedience to God’s word and the leading of the Holy Spirit.  When we give our hearts and lives to Jesus Christ are lives are no longer our own.  The will of God becomes the will of our lives.

We will never be able to walk in obedience in our own strength.  The only way we can walk in obedience in all things is through the power of the Holy Spirit and this only comes as we abide in the Lord daily.  As we spend time in the Lord’s presence through prayer and the reading of His word we are strengthened for the day.  It is a very foolish thing for a Christian to go throughout their day without spending time with the Lord in intimate fellowship.  If we fail to abide in the Lord we simply become a victim of the schemes of the enemy.

We are bombarded daily by the lies and deceptions of the enemy but we have nothing to fear.  The enemy we face is a powerless enemy who only has lies and deceptions.  By abiding in the Lord and coming to know the depths of His word we will be able to recognize every lie of the enemy.  Being ignorant of God’s word is a recipe for disaster because we won’t be able to discern whether the lies presented to us are true or false.

Abiding in the Lord is not about meeting some religious commitment.  The relationship we have with Jesus Christ is just that a living relationship.  We only grow with the Lord as we fellowship with Him and He has given us His word to read, meditate upon, and live by it.  It is the playbook for our lives and to live a life ignorant of God’s word is to miss out on what the Lord truly has for us.
