Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.
Satan is always at work trying to destroy as many lives as he can. He is bent on death and destruction because when he was removed from heaven for rebellion against the Lord all that good that existed within him was removed. The only thing that exist within his heart is death and destruction. He is the father of lies, which simply means that every lie originates with him.
As believers in Christ we are not called to focus on the enemy, but we are called to be mindful of his schemes. When we come to know the depths of God’s word we will come to understand how the enemy operates. As we grow in our relationship with Jesus Christ and we grow in maturity, we will have eyes to see and hearts to understand. We will be able to see the schemes of the enemy long before they are ever put in place. Walking by the leading of the Holy Spirit is like navigating a mine field and being able to see every mine that is planted long before we arrive.
The enemy is already defeated because he was defeated at Calvary. But he would deceive people into believing he still has power and authority. There are many Christians who fear the devil because they simply are ignorant of God’s word. They base what they know about the devil based on what they have seen in movies or they simply believe that he doesn’t exist.
The truth is that if we have placed our faith in Jesus Christ we are more than conquerors. We have authority because we are covered by the blood of Jesus and we are a child of God. We must stand upon the word of God and His promises. We must keep our eyes focused upon the Lord and not upon what the world or enemy is doing. As we simply grow in our relationship with God through prayer and the study of His word we will grow into a mature believer and will be a mighty force upon the earth for the Lord and His kingdom.
