3 For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. 4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 6 And we will be ready to punish every act of disobedience, once your obedience is complete. 2 Corinthians 10:3-6
What is a stronghold? A stronghold is a system of thought that is based upon a lie of the enemy that has been built over time as a person has focused their heart and mind on that lie and have come to believe it to be true. The only way that we can truly be set free is by the blood of Jesus.
We in ourselves are not capable of saving ourselves or setting ourselves free. If that was the case, Jesus would not have had to come, lay down His life, and shed His blood for us. But all of us are born into sin and because of this we are in under the bondage and curse of the enemy.
But there is hope and it is found in Jesus Christ. When we place our faith and trust in Jesus Christ we are set free. But the lies that existed in our minds before we came to Christ still remains. This is why spending time in God’s word is so very important. It is the word of God that breaks every lie and stronghold of the enemy.
The word of God allow us to recognize what is true and what is false. God’s word is the standard of truth and this is why the enemy does whatever he can to keep the word of God out of the hands of people or keep people so distracted in their lives that they have no time for God’s word.
Christians who desire to walk in victory and freedom are diligent students of God’s word. We must daily spend time reading God’s word and meditating upon His word. God’s word is the spiritual food for our lives. As we grow in our knowledge and understanding of God’s word we will continue to grow in maturity and the things that use to bind us will have no hold over us.
One thing we come to understand when we grow in our knowledge and understanding of God’s word is that our adversary the devil has no authority or power. The only thing he does have is lie and deception. As believers if we desire to walk in the freedom Jesus has purchased for us then knowing His word must be the number one priority.
