A prophet like me

14 The nations you will dispossess listen to those who practice sorcery or divination. But as for you, the Lord your God has not permitted you to do so.15 The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your fellow Israelites. You must listen to him. 16 For this is what you asked of the Lord your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly when you said, “Let us not hear the voice of the Lord our God nor see this great fire anymore, or we will die.”  Deuteronomy 18:14-16.

When Moses spoke and wrote this long ago under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, he had no idea that he was speaking of the coming Messiah.  On Mount Horeb when the people heard the Lord speak from the mountain in fear they cried out that God would not speak to them, but would speak through His man Moses.

The Father not only sent Jesus to earth to die in our place, but He sent Jesus to earth to reveal His heart.  In Jesus we see the glory of the Godhead in bodily form.  If we desire to know the Father and the Holy Spirit we simply need to come to know Jesus.  In Jesus we see the love of God at work in all things.  It is His love that defines who He is.

In our sinfulness we are not able to approach the mountain of God much like the Israelites.  But because of the shed blood of Jesus we are commanded by the Lord to boldly approach the throne of grace with confidence.  Through faith in Jesus Christ we are simply declared as righteous in the eyes of the Lord, it is His blood that washes away every sin.

So today if you find yourself afraid to approach the Lord because of something that has happened in the past understand that if you have placed your faith in Jesus Christ that the past no longer remains.  Jesus paid it all at Calvary.  When we take time to study the crucifixion of our Lord in depth we come to not only appreciate what He did, but we understand the depth of His sacrifice and understand that through faith the only thing that remains is righteousness through Jesus Christ.
