7 When He (the Lamb) broke open the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature call out, “Come.” 8 So I looked, and behold, an ashen (pale greenish gray) horse [like a corpse, representing death and pestilence]; and its rider’s name was Death; and Hades (the realm of the dead) was following with him. They were given authority and power over a fourth part of the earth, to kill with the sword and with famine and with [g]plague (pestilence, disease) and by the wild beasts of the earth. Revelation 6:7-8.
The breaking of the fourth seal brings wide spread death to the earth. We must remember that with the breaking of the seals on the scroll the judgment of God is poured out upon the earth. The fourth horse to come forth is a pale horse and it is a symbol of death. Demonic spirits are given authority at this time and with it a fourth of all mankind on the earth at this time are killed.
God has given us His word to prepare our hearts and to reveal to us the things to come. We currently live during the church age in which God’s grace is being poured out. But a time is coming when the church age will come to an end and instead of God’s grace being poured out, God’s judgment will be released upon the earth.
Those who diligently prepare their hearts now do not need to fear those things written in Revelation concerning the judgment of God. We who diligently prepare our hearts daily by pursuing the Lord with all our heart will be prepared for when the trumpet sounds. But those who simply go through the motions and fail to prepare the Lord with their whole hearts should reexamine their lives.
There was a parable that Jesus told about the ten virgins concerning His second coming. Five of them were prepared for the bride groom and five were not. God is calling His people to be prepared and He has given us the book of Revelation to show us the things that are coming. We need to examine our hearts and our lives and ask ourselves are we truly pursuing Jesus Christ with everything that is within us. Time is running short and it is time that we set aside anything that would take the place that Jesus deserves.
