Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate? 2 Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose.
3 Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. 4 Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.
5 You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.
6 Though he was God,[a]
he did not think of equality with God
as something to cling to.
7 Instead, he gave up his divine privileges[b];
he took the humble position of a slave[c]
and was born as a human being.
When he appeared in human form,[d]
8 he humbled himself in obedience to God
and died a criminal’s death on a cross.
9 Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor
and gave him the name above all other names,
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:1-11.
In this life we will face trials and tribulations. That is simply a natural part of the Christian journey. The Lord uses the trials and challenges we face to mold us into the image of Christ. When we place our trust in the Lord and stand upon His word in the midst of a trial or tribulation then we begin to develop the mind of Christ.
Jesus when He came to the earth emptied Himself of His heavenly glory. He took on the simply life of a man and was the son of two very ordinary people. Jesus was born into a poor family and He grew up in a very humble environment. Each day as He sat on the carpenters bench working the Holy Spirit was leading and guiding Him and He was simply growing in the wisdom of the Lord.
His express purpose of coming to this earth was to live a life free from sin and become the perfect sacrifice in the place of all humanity. Any who would simply place their trust in Jesus Christ would be born again and as we continue to walk with the Lord each day it is the Holy Spirit who empowers us for all things.
We must have the same attitude of Jesus as we travel this journey with the Lord. When we face different trials and tribulations we can not despair but we must keep our eyes focused on Jesus and know in our hearts that no matter what we face today it does not compare with eternity.
There are many who are suffering around the world for the name of Jesus as the gospel goes forth each and every day. We must pray for one another daily that we would be encouraged in the Lord and we would be strengthened in Him. He has not left us alone and He has not called us to walk alone. All of us are facing some trial of some kind. Those who desire to grow deeply in their relationship with Jesus Christ will experience greater trials.
The bottom line is that if Jesus is the obsession of our life than Satan will do everything he can to discourage us and paralyze us. But this is why we are told in God’s word to keep our eyes focused on Jesus. We are not called to focus our eyes and hearts on the enemy, on our circumstances, or upon ourselves. We are called to focus our eyes upon Jesus.
He has already defeated death and has overcome the world. We have authority and power because our faith is in Jesus Christ. As we draw near to the Lord and simply desire to know Him in deeper ways then our lives will be transformed into His image. Let us have the heart and mind of Christ and let us not fear the things that stand before us. Fear is simply a deception of the enemy and when we focus on fear our focus is taken off of Jesus Christ. Hold fast today in the faith you have and know that as you trust Jesus on a daily basis that He will empower and strengthen you through the Holy Spirit.
