As Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve disciples aside privately and told them what was going to happen to him. “Listen,” he said, “we’re going up to Jerusalem, where the Son of Man will be betrayed to the leading priests and the teachers of religious law. They will sentence him to die. Then they will hand him over to the Romans to be mocked, flogged with a whip, and crucified. But on the third day he will be raised from the dead.”
When Jesus came to earth He knew that He would have to lay down His life for humanity. He came with the express purpose of taking our place and being our substitute. He came to restore everything that was destroyed by sin and death. All those who place their faith and trust in Jesus Christ are declared righteous before God the Father and have the opportunity to come before the throne of grace with confidence.
The only thing that keeps us from the presence of the Lord is simply not drawing near. Some fail to draw near because they focus on their past, some fail to draw near because they believe God is angry at them, some fail to draw near because they have simply allowed other things to take the place Jesus deserves. Jesus paid the ultimate price so that we could simply draw near. Let us not waste our lives pursuing things that don’t matter and let us not waste our lives focusing on the past. Today simply draw near to the Lord and come to know His heart and His voice. He is returning soon.
