who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed.
Jesus took our sins upon Himself. For the first time in all eternity as He hung upon the cross He was separated from His heavenly Father because He took the sins of the world upon Himself. Everything He did at Calvary was simply because He loves us. It had nothing to do with obligation or being forced too. Jesus chose the cross simply because He loves us.
It is by His stripes that we are healed. It is by His stripes that we are set free. The healing spoken of here goes much farther than simply physical healing. It speaks of healing everything that was lost at the garden of Eden when Adam and Eve chose to reject God’s instruction to them and eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Since Eden before Jesus came every person has been born into sin and therefore every person has been separated from an intimate relationship with Almighty God.
But through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ we have freedom. It is through faith alone that we are set free. We need to focus our heart daily upon Jesus the author and perfecter of our faith. He has set us free and we no longer need to hold on to the past. We no longer need to focus on our brokenness and our short comings. We simply need to focus on the love, grace, and mercy that is found in Jesus Christ.
