5 For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, 6 knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. 7 For he who has died has been freed from sin. 8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, 9 knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him. 10 For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. 11 Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:5-11
The key to walking in freedom is understanding the truth of God’s word. We have been crucified with Christ. Jesus was crucified and He was raised to life. He now sits at the right hand of the Father interceding daily for us. We are free from the curse of sin and death because of what Jesus has done.
Many Christians today live in bondage to sin because they simply don’t understand biblical truth. Walking in freedom and authority has nothing to do with how we feel. Many Christians live in bondage because they allow their feelings and emotions to dictate what they believe. I am not free because I feel free, I am free because of what Jesus has done and what the truth of God’s word declares.
The bottom line is that the enemy will do everything he can to keep us from spending time studying God’s word. Our investment in the study of God’s word and not only studying it, but spending time meditating upon it will have a direct impact on our ability to walk in freedom and victory. Just because we may be overwhelmed by temptation does not mean we need to succumb to it. When we are overwhelmed we need to run to the Lord and get alone in His presence. We need to fully rely upon His strength and His grace.
