12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. 13 And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. 14 For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace. Romans 6:12-14
We are called to be a living sacrifice unto the Lord. Once our faith and trust has been placed in Jesus Christ our lives are no longer our own and our pursuit should not be the desire of the flesh. There should be a maturation taking place in the life of a believer. When we start our in our relationship with Jesus Christ there may be certain areas we continue to struggle in, but the more we walk with the Lord and spend time in His presence, we are transformed into the image of Jesus.
One of the results of maturation with the Lord is the fruit of the Spirit being produced in our life. The fruit of the Spirit and holiness being developed in our lives is not the result of following after the law. The fruit of the Spirit is produced when we simply follow the leading of the Holy Spirit. As we draw near to the Lord we become more sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
Walking in freedom results as we develop an understanding of God’s word and His truth. It is the truth that sets us free. If we are struggling in a certain area we need to simply ask the Lord for strength and wisdom as we deal with this area in our lives. In Jesus Christ we are set free and that freedom will become a reality in the life of anyone who simply draws near to Jesus daily.
