Romans 8:1-11: There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus

There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. 10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.   Romans 8:1-11

In Jesus Christ we are free and we are called to walk according to the Spirit.  To walk according to the Spirit simply means to walk in obedience to the leading of the Holy Spirit.  Christianity is about relationship with the Living God.  It is not about a title and it is not about a one time decision.  It is about a daily walk of drawing near to the Lord and being transformed supernaturally by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Where many fail in their decision to follow Jesus Christ is that they don’t understand the cost of following Jesus Christ.  Because much of what is preached in western churches is watered down so men can build empires to themselves, they fail to challenge people with the purity of the gospel and they compromise the truth to make people feel comfortable so that they will be added to the attendance number.

As we abide and we draw near we become more and more sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit.  The more we draw near the less we desire of the world and the desires of the flesh.  It is the Holy Spirit alone who leads us.  We need to let go of the world and the desires of the world.  We need the cry of our hearts to simply be your will be done.

Through the blood of Jesus we are able to draw near and so many times the enemy will try to keep us from God’s throne by either the busyness of our lives or lying to us to believe that some how God holds our sins against us.  But the truth is that nothing can separate us from God’s love and we are called to go boldly before God’s throne.  It is not until we develop deep intimacy with Jesus that we will walk in victory over temptation.  In the end what God truly desires is relationship.  He desires deep relationship with us and when we treat Him like a genie, simply only going to Him when we need something we break His heart.
