1 Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
whatever they do prospers.
4 Not so the wicked!
They are like chaff
that the wind blows away.
5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
6 For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked leads to destruction. Psalm 1
Our lives and the decisions we make carry with them consequences. Whether we believe in Jesus Christ or not we will all stand before Him. Those who have accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior will stand before the bemaseat judgment in which they will give an account of the faithfulness they had with the gifts and talents they were given by the Lord. But for those who rejected Jesus Christ in this life, they will stand before the white throne judgement and hear the fearful words from Jesus “away from me I never knew you”.
Those who place their trust in the Lord and walk with Him daily will have His grace and His favor upon their lives. No does this mean we are going to be wealthy and never encounter any problems or challenges in our lives, the answer is no. When Jesus spoke about giving life abundantly it goes much farther than material wealth or possessions. In America materialism has become one of the greatest idols in the American church. People claim to follow Christ but their hearts chase after the riches and the deceitfulness of wealth.
But if we will place our trust in the Lord and abide in Him, He will walk with us in all things. We will come to know the depths of His heart and this my friends is what the abundant life is all about. The abundant life is simply knowing the creator of all things intimately and personally. When we walk with the Lord intimately we will be filled with His love and we will live life without fear.
For those who chase after the ways of the world and have committed their lives to wickedness their eternity is one in which they shall be separated from God and live in continual torment. It is very difficult for us to imagine or understand the reality of Hell because our minds see things based on the temporary and based upon time. But in Hell there is no time and there is no relief. The Lake of Fire is one in which people are locked away in cages and prisons, they are surrounded and consumed by flames, the fire never goes out, it is pitch blackness, and the only thing you hear as you exist in torment is the screams of those around you. As I write this know it is a very sobering thought.
As believers in Jesus Christ let us focus our hearts and lives on Jesus Christ and the promises that God has for us. We live in a world that is filled with wickedness. But we are called to be a light in a dark place. The sole purpose of our lives on this earth is to glorify and magnify the name of Jesus Christ. Let us live each day with our hearts focused upon the Lord and let us pursue Him with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength.
