Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves. 3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same. 4 For he is God’s minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God’s minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil. 5 Therefore you must be subject, not only because of wrath but also for conscience’ sake. 6 For because of this you also pay taxes, for they are God’s ministers attending continually to this very thing. 7 Render therefore to all their due: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor. Romans 13:1-7.
God has called us to be subject to the governing authorities on the earth. The question that many ask is when it is okay to defy the authority of government. The only time we have the right to oppose the rule of the government is when it goes contradictory to God’s word.
God has established governments on the earth to keep the rule of law. But those governments are run by human beings and some of them have hearts that are committed to wickedness. If a government command a nation that all women were to have abortions then God’s people with in that nation would have a right to oppose and abstain from the rule of the government.
When government is run properly it will stand for what is right according to God’s standard. But in the times we live in many of those who have rejected Jesus Christ have the spirit of the anti-Christ growing within them that causes them to become more hostile to Christianity. We are seeing in America how over time the tone of our government has increased in hostility against Christianity. But this doesn’t mean we rise up in a physical revolution, what it means is that we buckle down and pray in an even greater way.
For sometime the body of Christ in America has been asleep at the wheel. We are a sleeping giant that fails to understand the power and authority we have. There is strength in numbers in God’s kingdom and our nation is filled with bible believing people. When we understand all that we have available to us and especially understand the power of prayer we will not only see our nation impacted for God’s kingdom, we will see every nation impacted for God’s kingdom.
We must pray for the leaders of our nation daily. We must pray that every decision, step, and leader raised up would align with God’s will and His will be done. Many right now are focused on Hillary Clinton and the debacle that has become of our justice system. But what I learned long ago from the Lord is that for a resurrection and restoration to take place a crucifixion must first take place. Always remember that no matter how dire or wicked things appear that God is in control of it all. He always uses what the enemy has meant for wickedness for the goodness of His people and the glory of His name.
Today focus not on the failure of human beings in leadership, focus instead on the Lordship of Jesus Christ. This world and this nation is not our home. Our citizenship is in Heaven and our King is coming soon. The trumpet shall sound and the bride of Christ shall go home. Until that time we are simply called daily to pursue the Lord with our whole heart. He is fully in control and His will is being fulfilled daily.
