14 I myself am convinced, my brothers and sisters, that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with knowledge and competent to instruct one another. 15 Yet I have written you quite boldly on some points to remind you of them again, because of the grace God gave me 16 to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles. He gave me the priestly duty of proclaiming the gospel of God, so that the Gentiles might become an offering acceptable to God, sanctified by the Holy Spirit.
17 Therefore I glory in Christ Jesus in my service to God. 18 I will not venture to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me in leading the Gentiles to obey God by what I have said and done— 19 by the power of signs and wonders, through the power of the Spirit of God. So from Jerusalem all the way around to Illyricum, I have fully proclaimed the gospel of Christ. 20 It has always been my ambition to preach the gospel where Christ was not known, so that I would not be building on someone else’s foundation. 21 Rather, as it is written:
“Those who were not told about him will see,
and those who have not heard will understand.”[g]
22 This is why I have often been hindered from coming to you. Romans 15:14-22
The apostle Paul was a man on a mission. He knew his mission and calling from the Lord was the preach the gospel. In everything the apostle Paul did he was led and guided by the Holy Spirit. When he would enter a city he would always go to the synagogue first but when the gospel was rejected he would preach the gospel to the gentiles.
The apostle Paul faced many difficulties through his life upon the earth. He was persecuted time and again for his witness of Jesus Christ. But the apostle Paul knew where his strength came from. When he had the thorn in the flesh and prayed three times that it be removed the Lord did not remove it but simply told him that His grace would be sufficient for him.
His desire was to preach the gospel where it had not been preached before. As believers in Christ the driving force of our lives should be to share the gospel. This can be done in a variety of ways from inviting someone to our church to simply telling people who Jesus is and what He has done for them. Sometimes it can be intimidating thinking about sharing the gospel with unbelievers. But the truth is that those who are lost in the world’s system are hungering for truth. Many of them simply live in fear day in and day out and we have been placed upon the earth to share the gospel in what ever way the Holy Spirit leads.
We will never know the full impact of our life and our witness until we get to Heaven some day. Many times when we are faithful to share the gospel we may face discouragement and this is simply the voice of the enemy. We are not called to turn anyone to Jesus Christ because that is the work and ministry of the Holy Spirit. We have been called to plant seeds and water those seeds through prayer. As we pray the Holy Spirit is softening hearts to receive the gospel. There is a mighty harvest before us, we simply need to be faithful as the Lord places people in our lives.
Maybe God has not called you to a foreign land but that doesn’t mean you have not been called to be a missionary. Where ever you find yourself in life is your mission field. No matter your lot in life the Lord desires to us you to share the gospel. One of the easiest ways I have learned in sharing the gospel is to place the gospel message on small business cards. It is a very simple way to plant a seed or to spark a conversation with someone when they ask what is this.
The reality before us is that we don’t know the day or hour that Jesus is returning. We simply need to be spending our days and hours being diligent each day to share the gospel. If you are intimidated ask the Holy Spirit for strength and boldness. Spend time in deep prayer asking the Holy Spirit to lead and guide you. Like anything in our relationship with Jesus Christ we can grow and that includes sharing the gospel. Let us be faithful to the gifts and talents we have been given.
