We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away. 2 For since the message spoken through angels was binding, and every violation and disobedience received its just punishment, 3 how shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him. 4 God also testified to it by signs, wonders and various miracles, and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will. Hebrews 2:1-4.
There is no such thing as casual Christianity. Daily we are in a spiritual war in which we are tempted on a daily basis by the desire of the sinful nature. But we can have authority over the temptations we face by relying fully upon the strength of the Lord and not our own. It is important for us to be in God’s word daily, reading His word and meditating upon His word. When we read God’s word our minds are transformed and therefore our lives are transformed.
The message of the gospel and the truth of Jesus Christ was demonstrated through signs, wonders, and miracles. The first century church saw a demonstration of God’s power as the authority of those speaking God’s word was demonstrated through signs, wonders, and miracles.
Signs, wonders, and miracles are a demonstration of authority and were not just for the first century church. Many times in America we see a lack of the power of the Holy Spirit because people have either rejected the power of the Holy Spirit or we simply as a people are not walking in obedience. There is much the Lord desires to do in our midst but it is going to require us as a people to walk in true repentance and walk in obedience.
The gifts of the Holy Spirit and the fullness of the Holy Spirit is available today for every believer. The Holy Spirit distributes the gifts of the Spirit according to the will of the Father. But again we must be open to receive what the Lord has for us. We cannot allow the traditions of man and the wisdom of man to keep us from all that God has for us. Too many times in America we allow pride and fear to keep us from having all that the Lord has for us.
When we simply take time to meditate upon the sacrifice of Jesus and the gravity of that sacrifice it puts life in the right perspective. We are simply called to seek first God’s kingdom and His righteousness. The bottom line is that if we desire to see the power of God demonstrated in our midst it requires obedience on our part to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
