22 “How great you are, Sovereign Lord! There is no one like you, and there is no God but you, as we have heard with our own ears. 23 And who is like your people Israel—the one nation on earth that God went out to redeem as a people for himself, and to make a name for himself, and to perform great and awesome wonders by driving out nations and their gods from before your people, whom you redeemedfrom Egypt?[d] 24 You have established your people Israel as your very own forever, and you, Lord, have become their God. 2 Samuel 7:22-24.
Throughout the Old Testament the nation of Israel had a covenant relationship with the Lord. That covenant was based upon Israel walking in obedience to the law that God had established. The Lord chose Abraham and established a covenant with him. As Abraham’s family grew then the covenant continued through his son Issac and then on to Jacob whose name was changed to Israel.
We today who have placed our faith and trust in Jesus Christ are in covenant relationship with the Lord. Instead of following the demands of the law, we are called to walk in obedience to the leading of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit lives in our hearts and as we abide daily through prayer and the study of God’s word, our sensitivity to the leading of the Holy Spirit continues to grow.
We have nothing to fear because no matter what we face the Lord goes before us and He prepares our every step. The battle belongs unto Him and He is asking that we simply trust Him in all things. It is very easy to get focused on circumstances and trials. But it is through the trials that we face that we grow in our relationship with God. He intentionally places us in situations in which we are required to trust Him in greater ways. The only way our faith truly grows is when it is tested. Hold fast and simply keep your eyes focused on Jesus Christ.
