I am the vine, you are the branches

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.  John 15:5-8

The only way we are able to bear fruit in our lives as believers in Jesus Christ is by simply abiding in the Lord.  We abide through time spent daily in God’s word and time spent in the Lord’s presence.  If we fail to abide in Him, we will fail to produce fruit in our lives.  Nothing is accomplished for God’s kingdom through our own strength and power.  It is only through the power of the Holy Spirit and the grace of God that we are able to accomplish anything for God’s kingdom.

It is impossible to claim to be truly born again if transformation has not taken place.  Maturation is a progressive process, but if we are continuing to indulge in the deeps of darkness then we need to examine our hearts and truly see if we have given Jesus our lives.  Raising your hand to follow Jesus during a church service does not make you born again.  The decision to place our faith in Jesus and make Him both Lord and Savior is what saves us and causes us to become born again.

It doesn’t matter how often we have attended church, if we fail to have the fruit of the Holy Spirit in our lives then it is utterly pointless.  Our journey with Christ is one of transformation.  As we abide in Him each day we are transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit.  We will never be perfect until we one day stand before the Lord in His kingdom.  But until that time He has called us to abide and we are simply called to be obedient to the leading and guidance of the Holy Spirit.  Today if you have eyes to see and ears to hear, know and discern what the Spirit of the Lord is saying. Daily He prepares the bride of Christ for the Lord’s return.  Let us each day draw near with our whole heart.
