The Lord is my shepherd

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
    He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
    he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
    for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk
    through the darkest valley,[a]
I will fear no evil,
    for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
    they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me
    in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
    my cup overflows.
Surely your goodness and love will follow me
    all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
    forever.  Psalm 23

The Lord is or Shepherd.  He leads and guides us one step at a time.  He doesn’t force us or push us into anything.  But He gently leads us and places desires within our hearts.  As He places desires within our hearts He simply desires that we would begin to pray in these directions.

When we pray we release angelic activity into the earth.  Angels are ministering spirits who come alongside us and aide us in our journey with the Lord.  We can learn a great deal from simply studying the life of Jesus.  In everything Jesus did and accomplished it was bathed in prayer.  Jesus would get alone with His Father.  The day before Jesus choose the twelve disciples He spent all night in prayer.

As we seek the Lord and spend time in His presence we come to know Him in a deep intimate way.  We come to understand the promises He has for us, and it is the Holy Spirit who begins to lead us in a greater way.  The reason many Christians struggle is they simply haven’t developed deep intimacy with the Lord.  They have tried to navigate this journey we call Christianity in their own strength.

The Lord will always provide every need we have.  He leads us one step at a time.  The mistake many make is they walk ahead of the leading of the Lord and make things much more difficult than they have to be.  When we wait upon the leading of the Lord it is His strength that we operate through and He makes the process and effortless process.  We will operate in our own strength if we move out in areas that God has not called us to move out in.

Today if you find yourself in the midst of a difficult trial, understand that the Lord’s hand is upon you.  As you seek Him for wisdom and for strength He will fill you and lead you.  One of the greatest things we can ask of the Lord is simply for greater wisdom in every area of our lives.  May we simply seek Him with our whole heart and may the cry of our heart be thy will be done.
