3 We ought always to thank God for you, brothers and sisters,[b] and rightly so, because your faith is growing more and more, and the love all of you have for one another is increasing. 4 Therefore, among God’s churches we boast about your perseverance and faith in all the persecutions and trials you are enduring. 2 Thessalonians 1:3-4
As believers and followers of Jesus Christ we should be continually growing in the love of Christ. This only happens as we abide in Him on a daily basis and grow in our relationship with Jesus Christ. As we diligently study God’s word and seek the Lord in prayer, the Holy Spirit supernaturally transforms our lives from the inside out.
Our lives are transformed as our minds are transformed. As we spend time studying God’s word and meditating on God’s word, the Holy Spirit shapes and molds our hearts. The desires of our lives become the desires of the Father for us. The journey of Christianity is one of coming to know Jesus Christ in greater ways. Jesus came to restore all that was lost in the garden of Eden. Adam and Eve walked in deep intimacy with the Lord before the fall because sin had not happened yet. They were perfect in every way and because of this they were able to walk closely with the Lord in all things.
But when the fall happened, sin separated them from the Lord. Instead of enjoying the presence of the Lord, they instead hid from the Lord when He was walking in the garden. But we who are in Christ today have no fear of the Lord’s presence. There is nothing that separates us from God because our sin no longer remains. Our sins have been washed away and we have been declared righteous before Almighty God.
In this life we will face trials and persecution, but all of it is used for our goodness and the Lord’s glory. As we stand fast in the Lord and on the truth of His word, we are matured and refined into the image of Christ. Maturity in Christ will never take place apart from trials and tribulations. Let us draw near, continue to grow in Christ, and may our lives be living sacrifices for His glory.
