There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
It is the perfect love of God that drives out all fear. When a person lives in fear they do so because of the fear of punishment of some kind. But in Christ as we grow in the knowledge of God and as we grow in maturity in Christ we understand we have nothing to fear. If I understand my every step is designed and ordered by the Lord, it won’t matter the circumstances I face because I know the Lord is fully in control.
Overcoming fear can only take place as we grow in Christ in a deeper way. We are called to continue to grow in our relationship with God. Our relationship with God is like the way a person naturally grows. When a baby is born it doesn’t stay a baby forever. It moves from new born, to infant, to toddler, to young child, teenager, young adult, and full grown adult.
But the only way we can grow into a full grown mature Christian is by abiding in God’s word daily and in prayer. As we seek the face of God we continue grow at the leading of the Holy Spirit. We become more and more sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit. The reason many struggle is they fail to abide. When things become comfortable they become very relaxed in their pursuit of God. We must continue to pursuit Him daily with everything that is within us.
