22 Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit[d] in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart, 23 having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever,[e] 24 because
Now this is the word which by the gospel was preached to you. 1 Peter 1:22-25
We are called to love one another fervently with a pure heart. The distinguishing mark of someone who follows Jesus Christ is His love at work in their lives. Everything Jesus did was done because of the love He has for us. His love held Him to the cross and His love led Him to the cross. His love should be the driving force in our lives on a daily basis.
It is important to note that Peter speaks of purifying the soul through obedience to the truth through the Spirit. We are called to follow and obey the leading of the Holy Spirit. We cannot call ourselves born again or a christian if our lives are not lived in obedience to the leading of the Holy Spirit. Maturation is a process and sanctification is a process, but if we blatantly live in rebellion then we cannot call ourselves a follower and disciple of Christ. We have abandoned Christ if we seek and lust after the things of the world.
We have been redeemed by the blood of Jesus. The blood of Jesus and what Jesus did at Calvary is incorruptible. We have not been redeemed with silver and gold. Yes before we came to Christ and were redeemed, we were in bondage and slavery to this world and the lies of the enemy. But through Christ we have been set free and may we use that freedom to honor and glorify His mighty and precious name.
The things of this world and the glory of man will perish like the grass of the field. Those who seek after the glory of this world it is fleeting and very temporary. If we have gained the whole world and forfeited our very soul then we have lost everything and gained nothing. But if we have gained Christ and laid down our life then we have gained everything for the word of God will endure forever. His word is unchanging and those who hold to the truth and the faith we have in Christ till the end will spend all eternity with Him in His kingdom.
The gospel we have is precious and it is pure. When the purity of the gospel is preached and a person comes to true repentance the chains and strongholds of the enemy is broken. May we hold fast to the truth and never compromise the truth for the praise of man. May He receive all glory and honor and may His name be proclaimed to the utter most for the King is coming soon!
