So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind.
Paul’s desire for those in Philippi would be that they would be one. This was our Savior’s prayer before He went to the cross. He prayed that we would be one as He and the Father were one.
As we grow in Christ we are transformed into the character and nature of Christ. That means the very inner workings of our mind and heart are transformed. It impacts the way we live, the decisions we make, how we treat others.
This is essential for walking in unity and love. Humanity left to themselves will destroy themselves. Our human selfish sinful natures is self-centered. We will destroy anyone who stands in the way of what we want.
But this is why Jesus came. Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil and the curse and bondage of sin. If we are in Christ the bondage of sin is broken. It doesn’t mean we aren’t tempted. It simply means sin is not the dominant or driving force in our lives.
The apostle Paul tells us to walk by the Spirit. To walk according to the leading of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the third person of the God head and as we follow Him, we are transformed. He empowers us and makes all things possible.
