15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life[c]—is not from the Father but is from the world. 17 And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.  1 John 2:15-17

We are called not to love the world.  The world and the culture of our day are contradictory to God and His kingdom.  If we love the world we cannot claim to be a disciples of Jesus Christ.  As we grow in Christ our desire and passion becomes the Lord and His kingdom.  The love of the world only leads to destruction.

Whoever does the will of God lives forever.  As we abide in Christ each day through the study of God’s word and spending time in prayer, we are transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit.  Though the world and its desires pass away, the Lord and His kingdom never will.  Daily we are faced with the decision to live for Jesus or live for this world.  Living for Jesus leads to eternal life, living for the world leads to destruction.  Though it may be enjoyable for a season, in the end it will destroy us.

Father I come before you today and pray that you would remove every desire from my heart for the world and its desires.  I pray that my passion and obsession would be you and your kingdom.  I pray each day that I would continue to grow in your and be filled with your love, grace, and mercy.  May your wisdom and understanding fill my heart.  Guard my heart daily and lead me one step at a time.
